You Are Welcome Here
Sara’s approach is based on Gestalt therapy principles. This means she believes that healing occurs as awareness grows. Her focus is on the present and she often integrates mindfulness. Gestalt therapy is a holistic approach, and the body’s wisdom plays an important role.
Sara also leans on internal family systems (IFS) informed parts work. This approach allows a deeper exploration of the various parts of ourselves that are sometimes in conflict and/or developed during times of stress or trauma. Parts work often feels powerful but gentle. Sara progresses at a pace that is right for you, ensuring you (and your parts) feel safe, while still working towards your goals.
Sara’s Focus
“We often find that the harder we try to get rid of emotions and thoughts, the stronger they become.”
- Richard Schwartz
Meet Sara
Sara’s professional experience before becoming a counselor includes working for non-profits and corporations, where she has helped teams and leaders achieve their goals. Since moving to Boise, Sara has volunteered at a shelter for individuals experiencing houselessness and for a community acupuncture clinic. She received her Master of Science degree in Counseling from Idaho State University and a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University. She has also studied Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and integrative health coaching.
Outside of work, Sara finds fulfillment in spending time with her dog, Max, whom she adopted from a shelter early in the pandemic. Earning his trust and teaching him how safe and fun the world can be has been very fulfilling. Sara enjoys hiking, being outside (especially near water and trees–as it reminds her of her hometown in Oregon), pottery, baking, paddleboarding (with Max), and watching feel-good movies.
